Bereavement - F.N. Akpe
Fellow Mariners,
I regret to announce the passing of my classmate and friend, Dr. Felix Akpe here in Mississippi , USA .  He was resident in Nigeria but had come to the United States for medical treatment.

Felix Akpe was admitted to class 1, Ashaka House, at GCU in September 1956.  He passed the West African School Certificate exam in 1961 and was awarded Grade 1.   He completed the Higher School certificate in the top 10% of his class in 1963 and was the head of Ashaka House.

In 1964 he won the ASPAU (African Scholarship Program of American Universities) scholarship to study at UCLA.  While at UCLA he had a medical emergency which confined him to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.  Notwithstanding, Fenepa, as we his classmates fondly called him, successfully pursued a career in banking rising to the position of Deputy Managing Director at the United Bank for Africa (UBA) headquarters in Lagos before his retirement.  He started and operated his own Finance Company after retirement until his passing.

He is fondly remembered by not only his classmates at GCU but also those whose lives he touched including his nephew, Chuks Asibelua, another GCU old boy in the United States .

He will be greatly missed

Please remember his family in your prayers.

Olu Sawyerr , '56, Vice President
GCUOBA NAMERICA
